Nationwide Background Checks

Nationwide background checks are important for a number of reasons.  Also, a number of criminals are on the loose either on probation or on parole. In most cases, these individuals are only sent back to prison if they commit new crimes.  For all you know, you could be living next door to a sex offender or someone wanted by the FBI.  It is not good to take chances on safety – yours and your family.  There are different types of records which could be useful in conducting nationwide background checks.  These are:

• Civil litigation records.  These records which could be used for nationwide background checks include divorce, lawsuit or employment conflict.
• Criminal litigation records.  Depositories of criminal records which could be used for nationwide background checks and are found in each state’s Department of Law Enforcement.

Nationwide background checks are actually non-existent.  Although there is a criminal database maintained by the FBI which people often mistook as nationwide background checks.  The FBI nationwide background checks database is called the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).  The FBI files however could not be accessed by just anyone other than the criminal justice agencies. Employers are not allowed access to this database unless the job requires constant contact with children, elderly and disabled persons.  People who accessed the FBI database without permission or who buy information that is illegally obtained may find themselves meted with strict penalty.    Even if the FBI records were made public, it is still not possible for just anybody to obtain true nationwide background checks without having to submit first a fingerprint card. You can use the non-fingerprint NCIC database called the Interstate Identification Index. But the data furnished is incomplete. It only receives data from twenty-two states.

In lieu of a nationwide background checks database you can access separate criminal records maintained at the county, parish, township and city levels all throughout the United States.  Searching through these databases may demand a lot from your time and requires money too.  Conducting nationwide background checks may prove to be too difficult.  You need to check the person’s incarceration information, parole information, probation information in both state and federal levels.  Criminal court information can orm a part of the nationwiude background checks could be checked out in a county level instead of searching for nationwide background checks. With research, you can find out about a person’s current and former addresses. You can also run a search using just the person’s complete name, birthdate and/or social security number.  This information can be obtained from an information broker or you search it on your own.
